Kim Charles has 20 years experience assisting small businesses, across a broad range of industries, to grow and prosper. Qualified in Business Management, Kim brings with her significant skills in the fields of economic development, business incubator management, small business development and event management.
Before moving to Australia in 2007, Kim owned and operated two highly successful small businesses in her native New Zealand: a consultancy company that delivered government economic development programs and small business advisory services; and a tourism information booking centre that provided agency services across New Zealand.
Upon arriving in Australia, Kim joined Business Foundations and was instrumental in growing that business into a highly successful government-funded national organistion.
In 2012, Kim was approached by Business Station to lead their team in delivering high-quality business advisory services to small businesses in Perth’s South-East metropolitan region. Since Kim’s appointment, Business Station has grown to be Western Australia’s most successful small business support organisation. Under her leadership, Business Station won the contract to manage Edith Cowan University’s state of the art Business Innovation Centre in Joondalup as well as the Welshpool incubator. This combined with the Gosnells Incubator means that Kim has created some $40m worth of facilities that Business Station now manages.
Kim has also been successful in winning a number of significant State and Federal Government tenders such as the Business local program and the Australian Small Business Advisory Program to enable the organisation to build its capacity to deliver low cost small business advisory services across the Perth Metropolitan region.
Kim recently took a group of Aboriginal tourism operators to New Zealand, to engage and exchange business and cultural practices with successful Maori businesses. Kim is passionate about SME’s and helping people develop their business through sound strategy, financial and business management, robust operational systems, marketing and brand management. She enjoys creating opportunities through partnerships and collaboration with like-minded people.
